“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
— C.S. Lewis
Books are treasured memories and experiences for me, some I return to over and over. Do you love to read as well? I’ve been an avid reader throughout my life and I believe one of the best gifts to receive is a new book! As the autumn season deepens and we spend more time at home, sitting down with a new story is the perfect cozy activity. It gives you rest from a busy world and allows you to replace screen time in an intentional way.
In preparation for sharing my top book recommendations, I spent a few moments reading about reading! Did you know the health benefits you gain from spending even just a few minutes reading? Here is what I discovered.
- Reading fiction improves social-cognitive function like increasing your empathy for others.
- Switch from screen time to reading for better sleep. Studies show using electronic devices at bedtime is related to increased fatigue and a later rise time.
- As surprising as it sounds, reading is actually a way to give your mind the rest it needs.
Interesting fact from the most recent PEW research study: in this social media era, the majority of Americans have still read a book in the past year!
If you are looking for a good read, here are some of our favorite books - I gathered ideas from Christen and Leigh as well!

The Mark of the Lion Series by Francine

And since I quoted him at the beginning, I can’t forget to mention — anything by C.S.Lewis! Do you have any books you love to re-read? Have you discovered new favorites recently? Comment below and let me know - I’m always looking for new book recommendations to try!
